Modern Day Strippling Warriors Need Strength & Honor

Updated: Apr 7

In today’s world, STRENGTH and HONOR are required if we want our children to grow into men and women who STAND FIRM in their testimonies of Jesus Christ. They will need STRENGTH to combat all of the forces of evil that confront them, so they can HONOR the covenants they will be making.

Therefore, we need to help them see the important connection between "strength and honor" and that STRENGTH PRECEEDS HONOR!

It will be very difficult for them to honor and keep their covenants if they have not acquired the inward strengths of SELF DISCIPLINE. The ability to say "NO" is a strength that needs to be practiced and developed. This can be a little tricky because when we ask them to do something, we want a "YES" answer - but when the world and their peers or the internet wants them to do something they need to respond with a "NO!" answer. Wisdom dictates then that we need to give them practice saying "NO!"

ROLEPLAYING SITUA The game is simply played by you giving them different situations for them to say "No Way" to, and mean it! Example: "Johnny what if you were at a friend's house and he asked if you wanted to see some pictures of people without clothes on. What could you say?"- - "NO WAY!" I won't look at those pictures!" "Amy what if you were at recess and the girls wanted you to help pick on another girl. What could you say in your own mind? "NO WAY!" I won't be mean!" and then what could you do? "Walk Away" Taking turns saying "NO WAY!" to different things while you are carpooling can get everyone on board to make this be part of your family dialogue where it will EMPOWER and STRENGTHEN everyone.

The "NO WAY, WALK AWAY" Game

Tell your children they often have to say "YES" to things their parents or teachers want them to do, but in the "NO WAY" game they get to practice saying "NO!" {Encourage them to say it loud, with STRENGTH and with a little attitude!"}

EXPLAIN THE GAME: The game is simply played by you giving them different situations for them to say "No Way" to, and mean it! "Walk Away" Taking turns saying "NO WAY!" to different things while you are carpooling can get everyone on board to making this be part of your family dialogue where it will EMPOWER and STRENGTHEN everyone.

The "STRENGTH and HONOR" Prayer

Shortly before your evening prayers, take your children aside and share that at your family prayers that night you want them to listen for two special words, the words are "STRENGTH and HONOR". Then, later that evening during your family prayer, ask Heavenly Father for the Lord's grace - His strengthening and enabling POWER, to help each of your children, {say their specific names,} to be filled with "Jesus' STRENGTH, his grace" to BE more valiant and courageous, to have more strength and honor than they could have on their own. Ask that He help them GROW in strength that they can be "preserved by the Lord's marvelous power" so they can be strong against temptation and be able to then HONOR their promises, the covenants, they will make with Him. After this first prayer, encourage each member of your family to include similar words and thoughts in your family prayers. This may take a little while to include these thoughts in your prayers, but you can LEAD OUT with it and they will pick up on it.
